Everyone deserves a good night's sleep

John’s bed was in a sorry state. Among other things, he was forced to tie the bed strings together with an old belt so he could sleep at night.

Though John was no stranger to discomfort - having lived in his station wagon for years until his one-room accommodation became available - the dodgy bed had triggered an old lower back injury, affecting John’s ability to sleep.

Team member Kelly noticed the state of the bed on one of her weekly visits with the HammondCare At Home client. John opened up to her about how it was affecting him.

‘We were determined to help John; everyone deserves a good night’s sleep,’ shared Care Manager Danielle.

‘John is a very understated person who keeps to himself. With no contact with his family, he relies on help from the HammondCare community to manage his basic needs. His fortnightly pension just covers accommodation, food and essential items.’

John’s Care Team contacted HammondCare Foundation, and thanks to donor generosity, were able to provide John with a new adjustable bed that was both comfortable and able to meet his care needs.

‘John was so grateful. He told us: “It’s because of your support I now get a much better night’s sleep.”

‘Care starts with helping someone feel valued and nurtured. We ensured we didn’t lose sight of John and his needs.’
