Women enjoying board games at HammondCare's Social Club

"It’s a wonderful community of people with similar interests. There’s not a single negative - it is all absolute pleasure. It has a LOT of positives - food, company, setting, activities and plenty more. I’ve been a member of a lot of communities but never a part of one where every person is so lovely."

"To start with I didn’t want to come. My daughters felt it would be nice for me to come. And it has been really nice. I thought I was doing alright at home but I found that I made some new friends. The people that work here can’t do enough for you. It’s been a blessing that I look forward to each time."

Preparing a meal with Social Club

"It’s a place for fellowship and friendship. The lunches are always so delicately prepared. The outings in the sun are always most enjoyable. The staff are always there to assist you. It is all very much appreciated. Something that I look forward to every week."

Social Clubs supporting the frail aged and those living with dementia

Our Social Clubs provide an inclusive environment where older people, including people living with dementia can take a break from their home environment, connect with their community and spend a day socialising.

The Social Club also allows family members and friends to take a break and enjoy some time out from their caring roles.

Got questions about our social clubs?

What can you expect from our Social Club?

For those attending the club, there are plenty of activities to enjoy, in a safe and supportive environment. Our activities are tailored to suit each individual. These include, but are not limited to games, outdoor activities, reading, painting, reminiscing or just relaxing. Nutritious meals are served throughout the day.

How can I access the service?

The service is available to people living with dementia in the Mona Vale, Cromer, and Manly areas. Accessed through Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) or Home Care Package funding. If you are a primary carer enquiring around costs, eligibility and availability, you can directly contact the Manager on 1800 826 166 and ask to speak to the local Northern Beaches social club manager.

What support is available?

Social Clubs provide weekly visits for guests, respite for guests and carers, information regarding other services and how to access them, as well as a pastoral care service.

What does a typical day look like?

Guests arrive from 9:30am, and the day is tailored depending on the interests of the group. This can look like sharing morning tea and having a catch-up. Exercise sessions and social activities are on offer and meals are included. Home-cooked and nutritious meals are prepared fresh on the day and cooked on-site, with the help of our guests if they wish to participate.

Carmon's Story

At HammondCare we prioritise understanding the unique needs and stories of our clients to enrich their lives. One such client, Carmon, was initially reserved when it came to sharing her interests. When introduced to Angela from the Brisbane team, she preferred to continue to enjoy her own activities independently.

Angela introduced Carmon to a sticker version of colouring books, leading to a memorable bonding session filled with smiles and laughter. This experience not only strengthened their relationship but also made Carmon more receptive to Angela's visits, allowing her husband Joe to feel at ease with stepping out.

The story exemplifies our commitment to fostering genuine connections and enhancing the wellbeing of those in our care.

How to get home care assistance

Step 1

Apply for funding

Check your eligibility by calling My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or do an online check.

If you’re eligible for a Government subsidy, you’ll complete a face-to-face assessment organised by My Aged Care.

Step 2

Meet our team

Once you’re approved, speak to a friendly, experienced member of our Support Team to discuss your care services.

You can also talk to us about private care if you need extra support on top of your subsidised care.

Step 3

Use your services

We’ll design a care plan with you and agree on what support best suits your needs. When you’re happy with it and have funding, your care will start.

Should you need to update your services for any reason, we can help.

Take a break through Respite Care

Spend a day socialising at our social clubs and enjoy a break from your normal routine. This can also give carers a well-deserved rest.

Meeting new people and experiencing activities outside of your home can be refreshing and uplifting. Our clubs have plenty of activities to enjoy in caring, friendly day centres. These activities include:

  • social events
  • board games
  • bus outings
  • crafts
  • gardening
  • helping in the kitchen and more
  • exercise sessions

You can expect home-cooked meals served fresh while catching up with friends, or making new ones. If you’d simply rather relax and enjoy the company, that’s okay too.
