"I love it! These are the best people that I've ever come across. They are very, very, very nice people. What better than this?"

Helen-Carer

"I love that Roby can come and he gets social interaction. The staff are just wonderful, and then of course it gives me a break. To have that break really helps to re-energise me and helps me to be a better person."

Ethan-Social-Club-Manager

"It's like day respite, Social Club members come here for the day and they do activities that give them mental stimulation, some physical activities. It helps to keep people living at home for longer and it gives carers a break to care for themselves."

Roby and Helen's Story

HammondCare Social Clubs are a day respite service for older people or people living with dementia. One such couple shares their story.

Helen is a full-time carer of her husband, Roby living with dementia. It can get difficult for Helen as she does not have family in Brisbane, and therefore the support she receives from the team at Eden Social Club is valuable to Helen's role as a carer.

Roby attends Eden Social Club for the day and the team tailor activities depending on Roby's interests. Helen notices that Roby comes home happy and the service also allows Helen time to re-energise and care for herself.

Social Clubs supporting the frail aged and those living with dementia

Our Brisbane Social Clubs provide an inclusive environment where older people, including people living with dementia can take a break from their home environment, connect with their community and spend a day socialising.

The Social Club also allows family members and friends to take a break and enjoy some time out from their caring roles.

Got questions about our social clubs?

What can you expect from our Social Club?

For those attending the club, there are plenty of activities to enjoy, in a safe and supportive environment. Our activities are tailored to suit each individual. These include, but are not limited to games, outdoor activities, reading, painting, reminiscing or just relaxing. Nutritious meals are served throughout the day.

How can I access the service?

The service is available to the frail aged and people living with dementia in the Brisbane south ACPR area and Caool ACPR area. Accessed through Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) or Home Care Package funding. If you are a primary carer enquiring around costs, eligibility and availability, you can directly contact the Manager on 1800 826 166 and ask to speak to the local Brisbane social club manager.

What support is available?

Social Clubs provide weekly visits for guests, respite for guests and carers, information regarding other services and how to access them, as well as a pastoral care service.

What does a typical day look like?

Guests arrive from 9:30am, and the day is tailored depending on the interests of the group. This can look like sharing morning tea and having a catch-up. Exercise sessions and social activities are on offer and meals are included. Home-cooked and nutritious meals are prepared fresh on the day and cooked on-site, with the help of our guests if they wish to participate.

How to get home care assistance

Step 1

Apply for funding

Check your eligibility by calling My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or do an online check.

If you’re eligible for a Government subsidy, you’ll complete a face-to-face assessment organised by My Aged Care.

Step 2

Meet our team

Once you’re approved, speak to a friendly, experienced member of our Support Team to discuss your care services.

You can also talk to us about private care if you need extra support on top of your subsidised care.

Step 3

Use your services

We’ll design a care plan with you and agree on what support best suits your needs. When you’re happy with it and have funding, your care will start.

Should you need to update your services for any reason, we can help.
