When  Bill Yeates was diagnosed with Younger Onset Dementia in 2019, it was the support of his mates from the local surf club on Sydney's Northern Beaches that provided strength and camaraderie in challenging times. 

These mates are now the organising force behind the Ocean Rockpool Tour Charity Swim, an annual event that not only supports Bill but also seeks to raise awareness about dementia and mental health.

Thanks to fantastic community involvement, now in its fourth year, this event provides significant support for programs and initiatives dedicated to improving the lives of people living with dementia.

In 2024 the funds raised for the Rockpool Tour Charity Swim enabled HammondCare to run an eight week arts program across HammondCare's respite care and social clubs on the Northern Beaches. The program provided more than 30 participants with valuable opportunities for social connection and creative expression.

Through each session, participants were able to design, develop and complete their own art projects, fostering a sense of accomplishment and boosting emotional wellbeing.

The program not only offered a therapeutic outlet, it also strengthened community bonds which reduced feelings of isolation and improved quality of life.
