Kripa finds purpose and connection at HammondCare

Kripa aspired to become a nurse from the age of nine. After gaining experience in high care and critical care wards, she now works as a Specialised Dementia Carer and Team Leader at HammondCare North Turramurra. Her exceptional care and compassion towards residents and colleagues recently earned her 11 Mission in Action award nominations.

We asked Kripa about her career journey with HammondCare.

Caring for people works both ways

Witnessing the positive impact our support has for residents each day means I get to experience many joyous moments. One of the residents calls me his daughter, we are like family. Another resident shared that his wedding anniversary was coming up, he had kept a note in his phone. I made a bouquet of flowers from the garden here at North Turramurra and wrote a personal note to him and his wife to mark the occasion.

His wife was overjoyed that he remembered their special day, it was very emotional.

A deeply meaningful career

My role has allowed me to make a real difference in people’s lives, build deep connections, and provide compassionate support that honours the dignity and wisdom of older people.

Our Residential Manager, Mae, is an incredibly hardworking leader. She encourages teamwork, quickly finds solutions to any issues and always focuses on delivering the best outcomes for residents.

My teammates are also my role models – I admire them for their strong advocacy, clinical skills, conflict management and time management. We all work together to meet the needs of the people we support.

Recognition for passionate care

I’m extremely proud to be part of an organisation that prioritises the welfare of people in need and is committed to educating and upskilling team members. And I was thrilled to receive the Mission in Action Award, to be acknowledged for my work. This is another way HammondCare looks after their people - we are seen and valued.
