Meet team member Michael

Michael has been working at HammondCare for over 4 years. Michael schedules care visits and works with the home care team to keep clients up to date with information
about these visits.

We asked Michael what he enjoys most about his role, and the importance of
teamwork.

What do you love about your job?

There are lots of things I really enjoy about my role. What I love most though is the
interaction with clients and team members. Plus being able to problem solve.
I’ve been doing this job for a while now, and there is a lot involved making sure
clients are receiving the support they need when they need it. I love coming to work;
you never know what each day is going to bring.

Why did you choose to work at HammondCare?

My personal beliefs align with HammondCare’s Mission, to help people in need. I
wanted a role where I could feel I was making a difference, and to work with people
that were like minded, to play a significant part in the team, and to develop ongoing
relationships with clients.

How is your job pivotal in supporting clients?

It’s important to me and my team that clients feel happy and supported my role is
to ensure that everything runs smoothly so you can then focus on the things you
enjoy doing.

We want clients to know that we are here for them to ensure they’re always getting
the care and support they need.

What has surprised you about your role?

I’m an introvert by nature growing up, I would avoid talking to people on the phone,
even people I knew well, like my own family.

It’s ironic when I think about that now! On our busier days, I could make up to 70
client phone calls and 30 to our care team.

Has there been a standout moment?

Anytime I can make a difference to someone’s day is a standout moment for me.
Fortunately, there are many. I find that clients are generally understanding too; we
want them to know we are doing our best to help them.

Witnessing the passion and commitment of our diversely skilled team in providing
‘whole-person care’ makes me proud to be part of the team. Whether clients need just a little bit of help or a lot, we treat them with the same amount of respect and
care. Just like we would a family member.

Anything else you would like to share?

I had a very close connection with my Nanna. Family is very important, and it’s what
I really value about my job that sense of community and belonging that we bring
for clients.

I’m also really passionate about family history and love hearing people’s stories.
After my Nanna died, I tracked down her cousin they hadn’t seen each other since
she was 10.

It was a big moment when we finally got to meet.

At the time of this newsletter publication Michael has just started a new role with his
team as Care Manager. Congratulations Michael!
