Harry, now 100, is a retired ship builder who lives at Wamberal on the NSW Central
Coast. He believes there are two secrets to a long life: prioritising family and having
two perfectly cooked boiled eggs for breakfast each morning.

In September Harry celebrated his special birthday at home with his trusted four
legged friend Mater and his extended family three children, nine grandchildren, and
20 great grandchildren.

Born in 1924 in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, Harry became a prisoner of war
during World War II, and first settled in Australian in 1953 in Burnie, Tasmania with
his young wife Vicky. Originally a panel beater by trade, he famously built yachts for
the Sydney to Hobart annual race.

Harry’s local HammondCare at Home Central Coast team and acting General Manager Marcela Carrasco were invited to join the celebrations, and Specialised Carer Darryl led a
singalong round Harry’s piano.

‘It’s a wonderful privilege to work with Harry’s family to support him to live in his own
home,’ shared Marcela.

Harry received letters from the King and Queen, the Prime Minister and Governor
General to mark the special occasion, and local news station NBN featured Harry’s
big day on their nightly news bulletin.

Happy Birthday Harry!
