The HammondCare leadership team combines a depth and diversity of experience and skills, serving and working together to improve quality of life for people in need. Our leadership is expressed through strategic action, as well as personal connection to the care we provide — and the team that provides it.

Andrew Thorburn
CEO
Andrew began as CEO in June 2024. His recent experience was in Impact Investing (including vocational education and aged care), assisting entrepreneurs with start-ups, and in the not-for-profit sector.
Before this he worked in banking for more than 30 years, including as CEO of Bank of New Zealand (2008-14) and CEO of National Australia Bank (2014-19).
Felicity Burns
General Manager, Health & Palliative Care
Felicity leads the Health and Palliative Care team which provides hospital, outpatient and community services across palliative care, rehabilitation, restorative care and older people’s mental health.
Joining HammondCare in 2015, she has served in a range of senior health leadership roles, building on her extensive experience as a Registered Nurse, Clinical Nurse Specialist and many other roles. A Masters of Health Management graduate from UTS, Felicity is the President of Palliative Care NSW.
Stephen Calder
General Manager, Pastoral Care and Volunteers
Steve joined HammondCare in 2014 as the Pastoral Care Coordinator for the Palliative Care Unit at Greenwich Hospital, Sydney. He later became Senior Pastoral Care Coordinator for HammondCare Health, joining the health leadership team. He became General Manager of Pastoral Care at HammondCare in August 2021.
Before working at HammondCare, Steve was a church pastor, having been ordained in the Sydney Diocese of the Anglican Church in 1997.
Marcela Carrasco
General Manager, HammondCare at Home
Marcela has over 20 years of experience across acute care as well as community and residential aged care. The majority of her career has been focused on supporting older Australians in both profit-driven and for-purpose organisations.
As a Registered Nurse with a deep commitment to improving care for aging populations, Marcela completed an MBA in 2016, enhancing her leadership and management skills within the healthcare sector.
Rory Crout
Chief Financial Officer
Rory leads the finance, legal, procurement, information technology teams.
Rory qualified as a Chartered Accountant after completing a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Upon leaving the auditing profession, he worked for multinational companies in senior finance roles in the pharmaceutical and facility services sectors. Rory is a volunteer at his local church.
Victoria Hayman
Chief Marketing Officer & General Manager, Consumer Experience
Victoria leads the marketing, communications and customer experience team that helps Australians explore and engage in their care journey with HammondCare.
Prior to joining the team at HammondCare, she held roles at IBM as Marketing Director for Asia Pacific and Head of Growth Strategy A/NZ. She has also worked as a Public Relations consultant and an Industrial Designer with large clients in the communications, technology, pharmaceutical and government sectors.
Duncan Mackellar
Acting General Manager, The Hammond Centre
Duncan will act as General Manager, The Hammond Centre, and is a psychiatrist specialising in the care of older people and dementia. He held various leadership roles before joining HammondCare where he has worked as a Clinical Specialist. He was co-author of the Oakden Report which triggered the Royal Commission into Aged Care. In addition to medicine, he has qualifications in creative arts, history and theology. His book An Everyone Story: Finding our way back to compassion, hope and humanity was published in 2024 and recently won the Australasian Journal on Ageing Book Award.
Mark Peacock
General Manager, Advisory Care and Partnerships
Mark comes to HammondCare after more than 10 years working across CBA and Westpac in management roles, most recently leading the sustainable finance practice within CBA’s institutional bank.
Previously, Mark worked in microfinance in Southeast Asia, initially in Indonesia with Australian NGO Opportunity International, and later in commercial lending with ANZ Bank in Timor Leste. Mark also spent 5 years helping to build the impact investing arm of Social Ventures Australia.
Jo Reed
Chief People Officer
Jo is a seasoned, commercially focused human resource executive leader, with international experience and a proven track record in the design and delivery of leading-edge HR strategies and solutions. Jo’s career has spanned a variety of industries, including 15 years in financial services (ANZ & NAB) based in Australia, Singapore and the Philippines.
Before joining HammondCare, Jo led an HR outsourcing engagement with the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet for Accenture.
Angela Sacks
Chief Risk Officer
Angela leads the quality, safety and risk team, drawing on her extensive international experience and proven track record managing complex health services.
Angela is originally from the UK where she qualified as a Registered Mental Health and General Nurse. Her career there spanned significant senior operational, regulatory and risk management experiences with the UK’s National Health Service (NHS).
After moving to Australia, and before joining HammondCare, Angela held roles in operational management, and risk, quality and compliance, including leading the COVID-19 Pandemic response in a previous role.
Jenny Summerton
Acting General Manager, Residential Care
Jenny will act as General Manager for Residential Care, after more than five years with HammondCare including most recently as National Program Manager for Dementia Support Australia (DSA). She has nearly 30 years’ experience across health and aged care - as a Registered Nurse holding a Bachelor of Applied Science, she has a deep understanding of relationship-focused clinical care.
Jenny’s experience with DSA as a dementia consultant, manager and strategic leader demonstrates a passionate dedication to support and engagement for people living with dementia and their caregivers.
John Sutherland
Chief Information Officer
John has more than 30 years’ experience in tehcnology roles and before coming to HammondCare, was CIO at Ramsay Health Care and Cochlear. He is a Board member, advisor and supporter of the University sector and holds a Master’s degree in Information Technology Management, Bachelor of Computer Science and Diploma in Electronics Engineering.
John was recognised as the Australian CIO of the Year in 2020, and made the Global CIO 100 list. He served the nation for 10 years in the Australian Army Reserve is part of the RSL Pipes and Drums, where he is a Piper.
